I overpay for Health Insurance! Cobra... Booooo!

So I had a GREAT job last year teaching Elementary P.E. in Arlington ISD. When I got married in July I had to quit my job and move to Lubbock where my husband is finishing up grad school. Luckily I found another great job that provides health insurance. My cost was only going to be $115/mo! Awesome! Well, when I got the details of the plan... not so lucky:( My insurance with the school district had a $500 deductable and $2,000 max out of pocket. The new insurance with the Lubbock job, $2,000 deductable and $5,000 max out of pocket! OUCH! The cost of my insulin, strips, pump and supplies is over $600/month. So, I chose to go with COBRA so that I can keep the school district insurance. Now I have to pay $378/mo for COBRA.

Having Diabetes doesn't suck so bad, what sucks is thinking about what I could do with $378/mo.

I have Awesome Runs!

I had an awesome run today. I went to academy and bought some new running pants and I just had to go try them out. I only did 2.25 miles but it felt so good and I could of kept going but it was getting dark :( My knees didn't hurt either! I'm going to start upping my milage next week. I've been easing back in slowly so I don't get any injuries. I really want to do a sprint-tri so I need to stay strong and healthy!
I checked my BS before I left the house and it was 65! What a crappy way to start a run! I drank a juicy juice and some glucose tabs, took my pump off and hit the road anyway. I took tabs with me just in case. I felt fine the whole way, worked out well... Now if I could just learn how to swim???

I overpay on prescriptions!

I just spent $75 on a 3 month supply of the iport. I was really excited to start them. I've tried 3 samples and in theory they are great. Well I have had so many issues with it the past few days. My blood sugars are constantly around 250-300. So I decided to go back on the pump. It's been over 3 months, I'm sure it's going to be an adjustment but I'm looking forward to better numbers and less shots!

I have Rough Nights!

Last night was the first time that I have ever woken up in the middle of the night low. It was really weird. I was in the middle of this very odd dream and I just opened my eyes. I knew right away I was low. I hit John and said "Juice". He got up and ran to the fridge and got me a juice box. I took it down pretty fast and just laid there waiting to come back. I was shaking and sweating and couldn't move. About 10 minutes later I realized it was 2:30 a.m. and I was starving! I got up and ate a breakfast bar and went back to sleep. My poor husband couldn't go back to sleep. He was up until 5 this morning. Oh, the price you pay being in love with a Diabetic :)

I am able

So I went to bed on Wednesday night with intentions of getting up early and running. Keep in mind that I am NOT a morning person. I don't really know what 6:30am looks like! So when the alarm went off at 6 I didn't not budge. I thought to myself, "I don't need to run this morning, I can always go later." Then I realized what day it was. It's my Birthday! My 2nd Diabetic birthday! I've had diabetes for 2 years. It was an "ah ha" moment for me. I have to get up and run today! And I did, and I ran with my " Diabetes Sucks" shirt. I had to run because I am able. Something I am very greatful to have, ability, to do anything.

xoxo

P.S. Mia doesn't pee her pants.

I try new technology....i Port

When I was diagnosed with T1D I did multiple daily injections for 3 weeks before I was put on the insulin pump. I have been pumping ever since. I was so overwhelmed when I first started using the pump but after just a few weeks it was just a part of me. It has never really bothered me to be on the pump. Well, this past May I decided to take a break from the pump. Really, the only reason I wanted to get off of the pump was to wear this really hot tight dress that I bought to wear to a ball with my husband. There would be NO place to hide that puppy! So I asked my DR. if I could do injections for just a week. I thought this would also be great practice for me because I was planning on injection therapy during our honeymoon a month later. Well, we are in August and I am still injecting. I just had a Dr.'s appointment August 10th. I told my Dr. the only reason I may consider going back to the pump is because I am starting to bruise very badly from the injections. I take 2 shots of Levimir a day and 3-5 shots of Novalog a day. So that is 5-7 shots a day. I have bruises on my legs and arms sooooo bad. My sister-n-law told me about the iport. I asked my Dr. about them and they gave me some samples. I love it! It is just a little port that I put in every 3 days, just like the pump. I then inject my insulin pins into this port. Don't feel a thing! No more bruises! So I may just stay on injections for awhile longer!

We are in trouble now... Blogspot is now mobile which means you will be hearing a lot more from me:)

I get off track :(

I can't believe it has been almost a year since I have posted. What a slacker! The past 12 months have been very stressful...very busy...but very beautiful! I quit blogging about my runs because I injured my knee during training. I tore my lateral meniscus and I had to have knee surgery January 2009. Because of this I had to drop out of the Ragnar Del Sol Relay race. This was very hard for me emotionally. I was so determined to make a statement about my Diabetes and my vision was crushed. Today was my first day to run post surgery. I did 2 miles, easy. I didn't want to do more because I don't want to over train and hurt myself again. I'm taking it slow this time. I think my run this morning has motivated me to get back on the blog.
